SpeakUp is a public speaking practice app that records your speech, transcribes it, and provides AI-generated coaching feedback. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights around it.

By using SpeakUp, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the app.

What We Collect

We collect the following information when you use SpeakUp:

• Audio recordings — when you start a practice session, your voice is recorded on your device and sent to our servers for transcription and analysis.
• Transcripts — the text version of your speech, generated from your audio.
• Coaching feedback — the analysis and scores generated for each session.
• Session metadata — topic selected, session duration, date and time.
• Account information — if you create an account, we store your email address.
• Device information — basic device type and iOS version for debugging purposes.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide and improve the SpeakUp service:

• Audio is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription.
• Transcripts are sent to Anthropic Claude for speech analysis and coaching feedback.
• Session data is stored in Google Firebase to power your history, streaks, and progress tracking.
• We may review anonymized session data to improve the quality of feedback.

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to any third party.

Third-Party Services

SpeakUp uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:

• OpenAI — transcription via Whisper API. OpenAI Privacy Policy

• Google Firebase — data storage and authentication. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Apple — in-app purchases processed via Apple. Apple Privacy Policy

Microphone Access

SpeakUp requires microphone access to record your speech. We only access the microphone when you actively start a recording session by tapping the record button. We do not record in the background.

You can revoke microphone permission at any time in your iPhone Settings. Without microphone access, the core features of the app will not function.

Data Retention

Your session data, transcripts, and recordings are stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual sessions from your history within the app. To request full deletion of all your data, contact us at the email below and we will process your request within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

SpeakUp is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Audio files are processed and not stored indefinitely beyond what is needed to deliver the service. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time by deleting the app
